information from the Birmingham Museum of Art catalog

description: This painting is overall in good condition, but its appearance is hampered by a light grime and dirt layer on the surface, a yellowed varnish, as well as old and unpleasant repairs. Especially unfortunate are vertical marks at the top of the painting that look like something dripped onto the painting. All of this needs to be removed, if possible. It is not a complicated treatment, but one that will improve the appearance significantly, so that your eyes are once again drawn to the details of the beautiful still life instead of the drip marks!
